Over the past seven years, I have worked with Roc Solid Foundation on their Room Remodel initiative. Together with the sponsors and volunteers, I was able to make over EIGHTEEN bedrooms and 2 houses for families fighting cancer. These families have welcomed us with open arms and allowed us into their lives. They have opened my eyes and allowed me to understand just how fortunate I am to not only be healthy, but also have a healthy child…and that is why I give back. My why.
This foundation and these kids and families have kept me grounded and given me an outlet to give back to the community. At the bottom of this blog post I have linked to some of my favorite past builds as a way to look back over the years. Please take a minute and look…and head over to the Roc Solid Foundation website and find out how you can get involved.
A month ago I was connected with Gabby. A GORGEOUS, smart, creative, courageous 16 year old fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma. Gabby and her niece, Serenity, share a bedroom that was in need of a pick-me-up. As soon as I heard about Gabby’s ideas for the new space, I was in. Global Farmhouse. She’s my spirit child. Here are a few of the pictures she sent me for inspiration…
And here are a few pictures of their room before.
Given time and budget, we’re always limited to reality…but using Roc Solid’s resources, local stores, and online shopping we also always seem to get it done (and usually in the last 10 minutes). This build was no exception. We actually didn’t have a sponsor, so everyone on site was an experienced Roc Solid volunteer…and thank God for that because each piece of furniture comes in 100,000 tiny parts and an instruction manual.
At the last minute we pulled it all together and I think Gabby and Serenity were pleasantly surprised with their room remodel!! Here are some pictures of the final product.
