Roc Solid Room Remodel | Jason

Last month, I had the pleasure of meeting with Jason; a selfless, humble, extremely sweet teddy bear of a 17 year old boy (man) who has been fighting Leukemia. Jason turned 18 last week, so we got him the best birthday present we could think of–a complete ‘Roc Solid Room Remodel!’

When I first met with Jason, we sat down on the floor of his room and talked about his future. Jason is finishing his treatments at the time in his life when most young men are planning their next big steps away from home; and he is doing exactly that. He wanted a room that he could essentially bring with him when the time came for him to move out and on to the next chapter. I asked him what he wanted to see in the new space as well as what his hobbies were, favorite colors, etc. His favorite color is orange and he wanted neon lights, fish tanks, a tv, a desk…and a trundle bed so that if his grandparents came over, they would have somewhere to sleep (remember what I said? SELFLESS). His family had recently moved to the house, so he literally still had his things in boxes–essentially camping out until we could take over.  Here are some before pictures of his room.

and here is his room after the dream team of volunteers at the Roc Solid Foundation whipped it into shape!! We painted the walls and much to the volunteers’ dismay, I requested cove lighting and a black ceiling (lol)…but they did an amazing job pulling it together. We also changed his light fixture, got him a great new trundle bed with a mini fridge as a bedside table, a world map desk, fish tank, and a big tv to play video games on (Call of Duty being a favorite). Jason also told me he loved scorpions and wanted a scorpio tattoo, but with Leukemia he wouldn’t be able to for a long time. So I ordered him every scorpio temporary tattoo I could find!!

With the windows closed (and i’m sure at night) the cove lighting is insane!

Jason loves to cook and is entertaining the idea of going to culinary school! I can’t wait to see the place you make for yourself in this world, Jason-but I know one thing; you’re making it better just by being the human being you are!!
