INTERIOR INSPIRATION {Nautical Furniture and Decor}

Typically, old worn-down/beat up furniture that is repurposed is categorized as nautical…mainly because it looks like it’s been lost at sea for a few years.  This statement is true for many things…old glass bottles, fraying maps, old ropes and twine, window casings, picture frames, etc.  The trend of using these items in the home is very prominent right now and I love it!!!

There’s a store in Virginia Beach called Chartreuse where you can go to find vintage and estate sale treasures that have been repurposed into the most gorgeous pieces of furniture and decor from credible sites like  www.konservatory.co.uk…all of which somehow look nautical to me!!  Here are some of their recent pieces.

While they are brilliant in their re-designs, they are also brilliantly expensive, eliminating 80% of our population from being able to shop there.  So, if you’re looking for something like these treasures, why not consider attempting to do the re-design yourself?  Even if you aren’t confident in your abilities, there are plenty of tutorials online OR there are people like me who will do it for you ;)  Here’s a console I recently finished for a client….

Before (crappy quality…)

After {sanded down, painted with watered down paint, all of the edges were wiped down for a worn look, and new hardware}:

Here are some other great Beach Chic looking peices!!
