This Hampton Roads interior renovation was a referral from a commercial interior design client…one who was apparently happy enough with their work space to also hire me for their home!
A year ago (exactly) I was finishing up with Harper Dental Care’s renovation in Poquoson. When we were done, Dr. Harper mentioned that his wife would like to update their home and that she may be contacting me at some point….
True to his word, a few months later, I started working with his awesome wife to “refresh” their already beautiful home. Lori wanted to buy new furniture and update the overall feel of the interior since their kids were now old enough to handle “grown up” furniture {aka light colored sofas}! Here is a picture of their living room before:
We got all new furniture for the living room, painted everything, and bought new lighting and accessories. Here is the after picture:
The sun room was previously a pretty empty kid’s playroom…it made a great basketball court for their son!!
I suggested switching the play area and the dining room so that the house would have an entertaining side and a side dedicated to the kids. They were hesitant at first, but soon caved and let me put the dining room in the sun room so the gorgeous waterfront view could be enjoyed while eating!
We re-covered their existing chairs and added two upholstered chairs to the mix.
We also decorated for Christmas since the Harper’s were having company over the holidays!
Finally, we fixed up this hutch–before is on the left with damaged doors– and turned it into a bar (shelving and alcohol to come once the holidays are over!)
Here are some other pictures of the space!
We did some other touches to the rest of the downstairs, including some DIY projects (fireplace whitewash and cornice window treatments) that will be shared on another blog!!
Thank you so much to the Harper family who has not only provided me with work, but great people to work with. You really don’t get to say that your clients have become your friends too often when you work in “customer service,” but that is certainly the case with this family!!
XOXO
