ROCKING CHAIR REHAB

For the past few years, we’ve had two plastic adirondack chairs on the front porch…..adirondack chairs that crack when large humans sit in them….adirondack chairs that seem to blow all the way across the yard in every storm….adirondack chairs that are incredibly hard to get up out of.  Needless to say, I was never really in love with them, but they did the trick.  We have been on the lookout for something new, almost since the day the old chairs arrived, but couldn’t find something unique ANYWHERE.

The other day I decided to hit my usual antique stores and happened upon two beautiful Kennedy style rocking chairs.  {Sidenote: They’re called Kennedy Rockers because this dude used to always sit in them…pretty cool, right?}

Well, after a little bit of sweet talking, I got the price of these puppies down to $60 and stuffed them in my car.  Yes, they fit…the reason I bought my terrain :)

Here’s a before picture…they’re all i phone pictures…sorry!

I decided to paint them since the wood and finish were pretty worn…they needed some life put back into them!  Before painting, the old crusty finish had to be sanded off.  I used the power sander for the straight surfaces, but had to manually sand the rest (sigh…)

I chose a paint with primer in it so I wouldn’t have to prime everything first.  I realllly wanted to paint them white to match the trim details with our house (which admittedly would have been boring) BUT they would have been dirty in an instant.  I settled on what is apparently my favorite color…turquoise.  I decided to paint everything but the hemp woven portions because the pattern was cool and I thought it would make a good contrast to leave it.

Here are some pictures of how they turned out {don’t mind the dead plants all over the front of my house…..that will be project number 345 this month}!

These chairs make me happy everytime I turn into the driveway and I can’t wait for warmer weather to enjoy them!!

XOXO
